The true meaning of Tailor should be that you can make a suit from scratch. My father started his tailoring apprenticeship in Croatia in 1958 and migrated to Sydney Australia in 1969 . He started his own business in 1975 and i started my apprenticeship with him in 1996. I now run the business and make the suits myself from cutting to stitching and fitting , no one puts a hand on them apart from myself. Ive been doing this for 28 years now but i will say it took me well over a decade to hone my skills to be able to make a complete suit and any young person who thinks they can become a proper Tailor without doing a trade apprenticeship is kidding themselves . Sadly this is a dying profession and there just aren't many opportunities for young people to learn these skills as i was fortunate to have done. We have quite a few upstart companies now advertising as tailoring houses here in Australia but taking measurements and then having a factory in Asia make that suit and then calling that suit tailor made is just wrong and cringe worthy. I hope that post Covid Governments can recognise the importance of vocational education and producing things locally to future proof the economy and that these skills can be passed on from generation to generation.

After being a cutter of mens and womens suits for over 2 decades, and being able to invest on other areas, its time to payback by creating some online training. Being able to do minor alterations but not necessary to make a good living. All you need is to believe in yourself and the ability to prompt good habits, to be two people , yourself as a novice and your own boss who sees you do diligence.

Samson's made me a 3-piece suit and a sport jacket. Both look top notch and the fit is amazing. Excellent value for money. Forget the designer stores and Indochino. A tailor made jacket by a man with experience like Steve provides several times more value for less cost. Give him a visit in person if you can and he will guide you to find the perfect outfit to suit your body and character.

I noticed my competitor has a huge budget for advertising and he ( Jeff Bezos Indochino ) has been having strangers berate my service. You notice 16 thumbs down. Considering they cant erase my endorsement rates, are these techies acting as customers without any human comments ?

I suspect the thumbs down are from people that dont understand that the cutting I do is not for the suit, but for the mock fitting. Its far too much work and expertise to sew for our entry level costs. I am a cutter and only sew for mock fittings that are not the actual garment.

Besides visiting tailors with experience , there are many eager to pick up the measuring tape and sell, sell. We will be getting more of these start ups tempting us with price and implied convenience. Caveat Emptor with reviews on the company before you make an appointment.
